Autumn is genuinely my favourite season for fashion, because the shift in weather gives me an excuse to reassess my entire wardrobe, layer by layer. There’s something about the first cold morning that makes me want to sit down and actually think through what’s missing from my current wardrobe, rather than just impulsively buying whatever’s trending that particular week.
Autumn is less about chasing a specific trend and more about genuinely useful pieces – a coat that’s finally worn through, boots that have seen better days, a jumper that goes with everything. So here’s what’s currently sitting on my autumn wishlist, the pieces and bits I’m genuinely eyeing up.
A long camel coat
I don’t currently own a genuinely good camel coat, which feels like a real gap given how versatile and timeless it is, working over almost anything from tailoring to a simple jumper and jeans. This is probably the single biggest investment piece on my list this year.
Knee-high leather boots
My current pair are on their last legs, quite literally, and I’m on the hunt for a proper replacement in a rich brown, black or burgundy tone, structured enough to elevate an outfit rather than just being purely practical.
A chunky cream cable-knit jumper
A genuine autumn staple that somehow isn’t currently in my wardrobe. I want something oversized, cosy, and versatile enough to wear with everything from jeans to skirts.
A silk bow blouse
This is the piece I keep coming back to as the one I actually want to invest in properly, in a rich, grown-up colour rather than anything too pastel or young looking.
A structured pink handbag
Given how much I’ve been thinking about pink accessories lately, it felt inevitable this would end up on my wishlist too. I’m after something in a dusty, muted tone, structured rather than slouchy, that’ll work as a genuine year-round piece rather than a seasonal purchase.
A pair of wide-leg tailored trousers
I’ve got plenty of skinny and straight-leg trousers already, but nothing with an extreme wide-leg, and I think it’s exactly the silhouette I need to round out my autumn wardrobe properly.
A proper autumn-scented candle
Something warm, slightly spiced, but not overly Christmassy this early in the season. I’m still narrowing down exactly which scent I want to commit to, but it’s firmly on the list.
A cashmere scarf
A good quality cashmere or wool-blend scarf in a rich, warm tone or a cool grey feels like exactly the kind of investment piece that pays for itself many times over across a long, cold season and beyond. A good one will last years.
A pair of Mary Jane flats
I’ve had my eye on a pair of Mary Janes with a small block heel for a while now, and I think they’d be the perfect finishing touch for a lot of the romantic, slightly coquette-leaning outfits I’ve been gravitating towards this season.
